Danika's first day of Kindergarten

Danika was up early and ready to get to school.  Fridays are Har's late days so he was still here to wish her a good day. She saw him off and waited for her mom and dad to come.
Meanwhile I was trying to put together lunches for each of them. Apples for Wyatt & Danika a plum for Genevieve.  Wyatt doesn't like cauliflower so his bag of veggies was just broccoli, carrots and cucumber.  No peanuts in Danika's class so we had two peanut butter sandwiches and one coconut spread with jelly. Milk and granola bars and string cheese for all three.

 I took a quick family picture before the big kids ran off to join friends in line to go to their classes. Jess, Joylynn, Courtney, Garrett and I got to walk Danika to her class.

The cobblestone courtyard looked so cool in the early morning sunshine, I asked her to spin around. She spun and I snapped. She also stopped to posed for a picture at the door too. She's this mommarazzi's dream child!

We ended up waiting a few minutes for her teacher to open the classroom and then all her little classmates came in with their parents and other support people.  I think there are 29 kids in her class. 

She's got the same teacher that Genevieve had last year and is in the same room that her mother was in for 1st grade. I can't remember which of our other kids had Mrs Barnett for 1st grade in this room.

She looks like she's pretty comfortable here.

Time for goodbyes

She got hugs from her dad and mom but was just fine. Thanks to Headstart last year, she was more than ready for all of us to leave and get started with her day. It was not the case for many of her new friends and their parents :_(

 There was a reception of some sort hosted by the PTA after school today but we didn't stay for it.  We hope to be at the Back to School Night and perhaps catch a few of the PTA meetings. 

 It really is great to see the changes in parental involvement at Sabin since our kids were students there.

Home for the weekend

Garrett left with Jess and Joylynn this morning but we brought the kids home after school. They've enjoyed having 3 1/2 days at home each week all summer.  I'm sure they're going to have a fun weekend after spending the school week here with us. 

I'm going to use my time to get some planning done for lunches, homework schedules and to catch up on laundry. I've got more than enough to keep me busy.

I even have some new fabric that is calling to me...

Afternoon meeting

 We went up to the school a few minutes early so Danika could play for a little bit.  Look who we saw out on the playground. Wyatt's class was just heading back into the school when we arrived and Genevieve's class was coming out to play.

Which way?

Danika was so excited about her one-on-one with her teacher.  She bounced into the classroom, found her cubby and checked out the room some.

  It turned out that she did her evaluation with a student teacher that will be in one of the Kindergarten classes. While I talked with her teacher about all of the scenarios of half-day versus full day.  We have been really hoping that she would be able to attend for the whole day but we can't pay over three-hundred dollars a month for the privilege. 

Fearless fun

While Danika was climbing, twirling and sliding, I made a phone call to the Kindergarten support person for PPS.  She said that Danika was approved for full day! She will be starting this Friday.

Yippee!!!

 Toothless predicament 

What does a kid do when the tooth they lose gets lost? 

Write a note and hope to hear back from the Tooth Fairy.

She didn't stop by to read the note last night but perhaps she's working the day shift today ;0)

My favorite resale shop

 Danika, Garrett and I did a few errands after dropping the kids off at school today.  Picked up some groceries and then headed to Just 4 Kids to see if we could find any shorts for Wyatt for the few weeks of warm weather we still have this fall. He's got several new shirts but I can't figure out what has happened to all of his shorts! I found 3 awesome pairs so he will not lack for things to wear.  Now I just need to get some shoes for Genevieve once sandal weather is over.

The full day kids

 Genevieve was so excited to see her friend Sara that I barely got her to pose for this picture. First day is always so busy with all of the parents taking the kids right to the classroom. I was planning on walking up there this morning but with the amount of school supplies that were being delivered to their classrooms I don't think they would have made it.

 They got new backpacks with matching lunch boxes that clip.  It makes for a very long load.  Wyatt had everything on his class list except for Lysol disinfecting wipes. His backpack and lunch weighed a ton! 

 Welcome to 3rd grade

 He had a name card ready for him when he got there.  He recognized a bunch of kids from last year.  I'm anxious to hear who all is in his class this year.

I don't know if he was waving or raising his hand but he's one of the big kids now up on the top floor of the school.  I noticed this letter on Genevieve's teacher's bulletin board that  he wrote to one of the incoming 1st graders. 

 Ready for 1st grade

Genevieve gets to start 1st grade in Wyatt's old classroom. His teacher had a 1st/2nd grade split last year. I'm pretty sure she is teaching just first this year. 

Genevieve joined a table where one girl she knew was sitting.  It turns out that I know the mom of one of the little girls at her table. Although there was no assigned seating in G'vieve's room, there was a welcome letter to her out on the bulletin board as well. I hope she's "ready for math"!

 Wyatt is up on the 3rd floor, Genevieve on the 2nd and Danika will be on the first.  I hope they get the routine down and have a good first day!

Taxiing Krystle to Beaverton

 Krystle is going to be a bridesmaid for a friend of hers and needed to get out to Beaverton to try on dresses. I ran into Albertsons out there to pick up a few things. I love the reusable bags they had. 

Waiting for Amanda

Krystle entertained Garrett while Danika entertained everyone while we waited outside of David's Bridal.

 Only 3 weeks away!

I'm happy for Amanda and glad that Krystle is going to be a part of her big day. They've been good buddies for a long time.

We have a freshman in the house

Kickin' off 9th grade at Burgerville!

Cameron's favorite Burgerville food is the breakfast sandwich. A bagel with a fried egg, ham and cheese. He got it again today as a treat to start off his new year of school. He would eat this sandwich for breakfast, lunch or dinner but we've found only one Burgerville in the whole chain that makes breakfast any time you want it. That's in The Dalles. I think a trip up the gorge may be in order one of these days.  Road trip or field trip... when you're doing virtual school they are one and the same.

One final medical test

Danika couldn't get her blood drawn on the day of her appointment as she had had something to eat before she got there.  We had to have a fasting blood test. She was a trooper!
This is the first time out of the last 3 times I've taken her in that they got it on the first try.  All other times they've had to poke both arms to get what they needed.
She said it tickled and that she was brave. Yes she was.

We were following this van toward the Fremont Bridge this morning.  I can't see a buzzito without thinking of you, Lyssa. Do they have them out east?

East Coast shenanigans

Rowan got a new martial arts outfit in the mail.  He's going to wear it for Halloween and for his birthday which is the day after. Won't it be fun to have a dress up birthday party?

Katie just had to try it on too.  According to her mother she had some pretty great moves as well but the cell phone wouldn't focus properly until she stopped moving.

Another mover and shaker. Little Evie is pulling up and getting into lots of things. This Gramma better be watching those legos a bit closer.  We don't want her eating any toys.

Pumpkin spice lattes are back! The salted Caramel Mochas sound pretty yummy too.

California Cuties

Cherise sent pictures to my phone of Anabelle's first breakfast in her new big girl high chair at their new house. And another one of Henry making sure their new pandas are keeping hydrated at the zoo. 

Those two are starting to look more alike. Although Anabelle definitely is all girl.

I enjoyed seeing all of the pictures Cherise put on her blog today: highlights of their trip.
