Zoo-day in P'town

Woke up to a rainbow
You know it's a sunny morning when the sun shines through the fish tank and makes the most brilliant spectrum of light on the wall. Pretty impressive!
The early bird gets the iPad
Little miss got up before her brother so she got to play one of her games on the iPad before we started our day.
The Oregon Zoo
We got there before the gates opened for the day. Even this bee was still sleeping. Cherise thought that maybe it was dead but as the sun hit side of the building and started warming things up it was all of a sudden gone. I've never seen a sleeping bee before.

Henry's not sure which category of recycling his sister qualifies for. Yup they have a bin for that ;)

Map and beverages in hand and we're on our way. The sea lion was out sunning himself.

The chimpanzees were in the yard. This guy was fishing for ants and eating them.

I still haven't seen our newest elephant, Lily. Courts says she's super cute. We walked up to the Elephant Overlook but there was a huge group of girl scouts waiting for Rose-Tu and her family to be let out into the yard. We didn't feel like waiting. I will post pictures though as soon as I get them.

The African animals are always so stunning. I enjoy watching the giraffes eat and walk around. I got to see the flamingo exhibit. It's very nice. I like the way the landscape grasses match the pink of the flamingo's legs. I'm sure that was by design.
Grampa's boy Henry
Henry resembles Harlan even more than any of our kids did at that age. He's one smart cookie as well.

The newly remodeled duck pond area in the Great Northwest area has copper fence post caps that have bird footprints on them. Many of them also have the name of contributors to the project. If you look closely at the above picture you can see three of the girls in front of Hayden and Cam. They are the five of our kids that were there that day.
The visitors posing for a photo before we left for the day.
Supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory
One way to keep a kid busy while waiting to be seated at a busy restaurant? Give him the pager that they give you. Henry was out of his seat in a flash when the pager went off. It's especially perfect with a technical minded little chap.
The ballon man

Anabelle was fascinated but not so sure about the guy making ballon pets, hats and such. Henry asked for a dinosaur and Bellie-girl got a flower.

A walk along the river after dinner

Our walk included taking in some gorgeous views of the river, waterfowl, flowers and even some tree hugging.
Anabelle seemed amused by our "tree hugging" pose.

Mt Hood in the hazy sunshine
Cherise and Kiel's time here is going by so fast. Only one more full day of fun and they'll have to fly back home. I'm going to be sad to see them go.
