Birthday Breakfast Buddy
Gar and I took Harlan to Grand Central Bakery for a breakfast.
I totally enjoyed my cheese and leek quiche and strawberry rhubarb tart. Har had his ol' standby, fried egg over medium with coarse ground pepper and two pieces of Goldendale wheat toast and a large piece of seasonal fruit coffee cake.
Garrett made a good dent in a yummy fresh blueberry muffin.
We would have loved to linger over a second or third cup of coffee but the little guy wouldn't sit for it so home we went.
Birthday cards from VA
Alyssa called to wish her dad a Happy Birthday and wanted him to open the cards that they sent. Rowan and Katie chose perfect cards.
Rowan's personality is quite large when it comes to presents and birthdays. He gets so excited! So the birthday card that got bigger and bigger was ideal.
Miss Katelyn is such a polite little person that the "'Scuse me" made us smile. And the "Pampa" and question was the ultimate "awwww".
Depicting 55 without burning the place down
Carrot cake, raspberry pie & ice cream, and key lime pie were the dessert choices.
Jess, Joylynn, our friends: Tom, Kim and Molly and Har's brother, Howard, joined us to party.
It was fun watching Har enjoy conversing in words and gestures.
A new hat and some other clothes, a book, and lots of candy and a big new toy are what he got for presents.
Garrett had a hard time letting the presents sit there unopened. He was willing to help rip the big pressure washer open. He's gotta get into practice. He turns TWO in less than a month!

What a great post! It's great to share in family things even when we're so far. Thank you mom :)
Katie and Rowan picked out those cards by themselves. I only had to discourage one or two "happy birthday to my wife" or "congrats on the baby" type of cards ;) but they definitely had the last word on which "happy birthday appropriate for grampa" type cards we got ;)(
