Alexandria and Reagan

We picked a warm day for sight seeing
Harlan, the boys and I decided to do a bit of the touristy thing and walk around Old-town Alexandria. It is really close to the airport where Courtney was scheduled to fly into at 5:40 that night. We drove down and had a couple of hours to wander around before heading to Reagan International.
 First a coffee break

We had coffee and dessert at LaMadeleine. where you could learn French phrases while in the restroom. They had them printed on the wall tiles and also had an audio tutor giving instructions in there as well. The coffee was pretty good.
 Flowers, flags and historical buildings

Cameron found his street!

We didn't have time to get a tour of Gadsby's. It is one of the original taverns in Alexandria from the 1700s.
Look at the wear on this sandstone step!  We loved seeing so many historical places.

The heat didn't bother me much but my companions were very happy to get into the air-conditioned van once again. Oh, and did I mention, I love our GPS!!! How did we get along without those handy gizmos?
 More beautiful architecture

We left for the airport just in time! A summer thunder shower was moving in. It was POURING! We watched the lightning as we drove toward the parking garage. Courtney's flight ended up landing and sitting on the tarmac for over a half hour because the flight ahead of them at the terminal couldn't take off because of the electrical storm.
This mosaic is on the floor just in front of a gift shop called Capitol Images.
Looks a lot like Washington D.C. to me.
Cock and Bull
She made it!!!
Courts had been at Alyssa and Logan's in the end of May. But this trip was made so she could go down to Charlie's graduation from bootcamp in South Carolina with Alyssa and Logan.

Har and I were going to get to stay with the kids!
That adventure will be featured on another blog post.
