An afternoon in Danika's class

I showed up at lunchtime

Danika had to wait for a long time for me to finally show up to spend time in her classroom. I found both her and Genevieve in the lunchroom.

Lunch recess

Danika has gotten so she can make it all the way across the bars without stopping or dropping. Her sister happens to be part monkey and is quick as one too going across even skipping every other bar.

Hanging and swinging, tire swinging or twirling her way down from the top of the play structure. She wanted me to see all of her tricks.
 Reading corner
After lunch there is a silent reading time. When there is a helper in the classroom, there is often a group of kids gathered around bringing a book or two to be read to them.
There were six kids around the table as I (mostly) successfully read 3 books upside down so they could see the pictures.
Art with Mr Lamp
Chris Lamp was a kindergarten teacher when our oldest kids were at Sabin. He is now an art specialist and teaches all of the kids in the school.
He had a classroom on the first floor at the beginning of the school year but due to high kindergarten enrollment that classroom had to be assigned to a 4th kindergarten class.
Mr Lamp's classroom is now on the 3rd floor and nobody under 2nd grade is allowed up there so they have Art on a Cart! Mr Lamp comes to them.

They have been learning about animals that are endangered around the world. Last week they made elephants, this week it was lions. He gave them tips on drawing the shapes and on cutting outside of the lines.
Danika made a Daddy lion and a Baby lion.
Social studies: homes around the world
Yurts, huts, teepees, adobe dwellings, are just a few of the kinds of houses that they talked about.
Year end treat project

Miss Maria who happens to be from Indonesia is making snack leis for each of the kids in the classroom. She was there working and calling kids over to help tie the ribbons between the snacks.

BIG "D"
Danika wanted me to take a picture of her with the big D in the covered area of the playground.  With her pink cowboy boots she could fit right in the "Big D" down in Texas.
Teacher's helpers

We got to help out Mrs Mease by taking down one of the displays of the artwork in the hallway. Danika was able to be outside of the classroom with me as we carefully took each picture down and removed the tape that was stuck to the back of each one.
A couple of D'ka's masterpieces

The colorful hearts picture  was created during free time today. The turtle on the left is supposed to be in an Eric Carle style. The other watercolor turtle was painted after another lesson on endangered species.
