Awesome assembly

 Martin Luther King Jr Day
Program at Sabin Elementary

There were two scheduled times for the MLK Day performance at the kids' school today. Joylynn went to the first one and I attended the second one. It was good to see their principal, Mr Dauch, was back after having knee surgery.  I took some pictures of the Kindergarteners for Danika to see, since she was at home sick. Danika's teacher, Mrs Meese is in the above photo.
Here are all 4 Kindergarten classes squished into the gymnasium in lines 3 deep. They performed an "ABC Rock" and recited a poem.
 1st graders

It seems the younger the class age the more participation you get in doing motions to songs. The first graders did an awesome upbeat song about being individuals, "Each of us is a Flower". I could barely see Genevieve in the back row but caught glimpses of her doing a terrific job with the song and motions.
She looked quite pleased with herself as they filed out of the gym.
Wyatt's grade- 3rd
Wyatt has an amazing 3rd grade teacher, Mrs Hunt (here in the vest with the white sleeves) and a wonderful student teacher, Ms Modjeski, (in the light blue). They are very invested in the academic progress of their students. I've gotten emails and phone calls and notes. They never fail to include me in all of the ins, outs, ups and downs of Wyatt's school days. I really appreciate all that they do.
Wyatt got lost in the back of the crowd during their performance but just like G'vieve I kept getting glimpses of him but not many good pictures. They did a rap about Dr King.

Mrs Shaw's 4th grade

This fourth grade class did an awesome job singing "Imagine" by John Lennon and "Let There be Peace on Earth" with a piano, drum and violin accompanying  them.
They sang out very nicely and really touched the crowd with their performance. K-2 parents were encouraged to attend the first performance and 3-8th grade parents the second to make sure there was adequate seating available. It appears that it worked out well.
I applaud the music teacher, Mr Gilpin, as well as all the staff and especially, Mrs Hunt for doing a wonderful job with these kids.
Surprise pick-up
Joylynn hung out and waited for the kids to be dismissed. That made for happy times after school today. Perhaps it's just the anticipation of 3 days at home!
Hope the sun continues to shine each day this weekend.
That would be marvelous!!!

Aw, so fun.

Did they file out singing "all we are saying, is give peace a chance"? 'Cause if they didn't I'm not sure if it was a real MLK celebration.

Haha, I agree Cherise. They can't forget the classics!!

Assemblies are great but seriously, can't they organize a bit and get the shorter kids UP FRONT?! Logan said maybe Wyatt slid himself back there but I dunno, looks like there were some big kids in front of G'vieve too! Oh well, I'm sure it was cute in person and you were able to spot them so I guess it wasn't that bad... I just thought it was a little crazy that they were both in the back row.
