Taking a first step

Laminate flooring

Harlan and I have planned to put new floors in our house for quite some time. Refinishing the existing hardwoods is not an option. They aren't tongue and groove floors so refinishing them would be extremely time consuming and costly. We wanted a high quality low maintenance option so Pergo was our choice.
We decided to start with the den and the hall between the den, bathroom, our room and kitchen as that space required the least amount of furniture to move elsewhere.  Since it is not open to other living spaces we could do it as the initial project and judge how much work and time it will take to do the other rooms. The dining, living and music rooms will have to be done at the same time.

Starting with a living space having 8 door frames to trim was probably not the easiest way to learn how to install laminate flooring. We did learn that our 97 year old house is made of stout stuff. As far as we can tell quality workmanship and materials are used throughout with the exception of putting in top nailed flooring :P
All done but the toe moulding

It is beautiful! We still need to get the baseboards prepared for painting and the toe moulding installed. At that time the walls will be getting painted a lovely yellow and all of the trim in the room will be white. We need to touch up the trim paint on the whole first floor. I'm happy with all of the other wall colors though. Except maybe the kitchen... Time for some brainstorming.

 Place of inspiration

Harlan and Hayden love IKEA. They, along with Cam, went for a walkthrough last Sunday to get ideas for lights for the den. I find the place overwhelming. I need inspiration on a smaller scale ;0)
Gotta get back to meal planning
Our week of working on projects without the kids here got me totally out of meal mode. We ate whatever, whenever. I haven't been good about planning meals this summer or shopping either, so we found ourselves at McDonald's after 6 p.m. the other night.
It's funny... the kids didn't complain one bit!
It's okay on occasion but don't you guys think we can make this a habit.
 New business in town

After we dropped the kids off for their weekend at home, the boys and I went to fill the gas tank on the van. Next door to the gas station is a Dutch Bros Coffee drive-thru. A quick call to Cherise to see what was good and we picked up a couple of beverages to try. Not bad. We might have to check out some of their other choices.

Genevieve wanted me to take a picture of her in her sunbonnet and braids. I think she looks like a sweet little Dutch girl. Perhaps next year we'll take pictures of her at the Woodburn tulip festival. I've never been there and it just landed on my "bucket list".

That looks fantastic!! :) nice job! I can't wait to see it in person.

You know, I think you'd like ikea better if you just go through the shopping part of it instead of the showroom place. They have so much and pretty good prices overall. The food is pretty good too ;)

I know I want to see this floor in person! And glad you liked Dutch bros, a nice sweet treat. Their kid sized smoothies are good and reasonably priced too ;)
